Cycling: the Path to a more Sustainable Lifestyle and Higher Productivity
18/12/2024
The Dutch are moving less and less. On average, more than half of the population now fails to meet the Health Council’s exercise guidelines. Traffic jams continue to increase as well; in the past year alone, almost 180,000 cars were added to Dutch roads. Not to mention the significant environmental impact.
A simple calculation quickly leads to an obvious solution: cycling. Cycling to work is a topic that – fortunately – is becoming increasingly popular, as it not only contributes to sustainability but also brings many personal benefits.
Cycling has a positive effect on mental well-being. It stimulates blood flow to the brain, ensuring more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the brain. This improves thinking ability and focus, leading to more efficient task execution and higher productivity.

Additionally, cycling promotes the production of endorphins, the ‘happiness hormone,’ which reduces stress levels and promotes a sense of well-being. This also has a beneficial effect on productivity, as stress has a significant negative impact by reducing concentration and increasing error-proneness in the workplace.
Moreover, the release of endorphins and improved blood circulation promote relaxation and mental agility, which increases creativity. This mental clarity creates space for new ideas and solutions, which is essential in the modern workplace.
Cycling is therefore a doubly beneficial choice; it not only contributes to sustainable transport and reduces pressure on our congested roads but also improves personal productivity. Let’s embrace cycling as the key to a more vital population and a cleaner environment.
At Cyclis, we are committed to happy cyclists and motivate employees to cycle to work. Together, we work towards a more sustainable world and happier people!
